Sister Naima Khan Ghani, one of the board members of Friends Of Humanity has long enjoyed a strong relationship with Miramar City commissioner Yvette Colbourne and Mayor Wayne Messam for many years. With persistent lobbying by sister Naima, and help from Ms. Colbourne and Mr. Messam, city of Miramar, since 2019 has declared May to be the Muslim Heritage month.

Additionally, thanks to MS. Colbourne and sister Naima, city of Miramar arranges a Ramadan Iftar dinner every year during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
